A. Procedures of Teaching
Before doing a grand demo, we have to assist our buddy to check our teaching model and knowledge. Meaning, we can handle some part of their lecture. In my case, I have 3 times of assistantship each in 2 classes (8 Honesty and 8 Simplicity) and grand demo.

In 11/09/23, I handled the pre-assessment or motivational activity of the kids before the lecture proper. The topics is about Color and the motivational activity is called “The Color Decides” (the further explanations can be seen in the Learning Plan Week 4).

In 13/09/23, I handled the proper lecture. Since we have to check the mastery tests, so I only had 10 minutes to continue the material from the previous meeting. I discussed “Color Blindness and Care for the Eyes” because the target is to finish Color of the object on this day. Here how I help Ana while borrow the projector and set the laptop.

In 15/09/23, I handled the class from opening to closing since it was my last teaching practice before the grand demo. The day before, I have prepared slides for “Thermometer and Temperature Scales”. I also prepared for the motivational activity, that called “BEAT the HEAT sa panahong tag-init” (the further explanation can be seen in the Learning Plan Week 5). The students was very responsive and active so the learning process felt interactive.

In 18/09/23, is the final chapter of teaching, the day where we’ve wait for: the grand demo. This is where I did myself-fully teaching and being graded by the supervising teacher (sir Jai) and assessor (sir JC Valeroso). Even though I faced some challenges (my projector didn’t work out in the beginning), but thank God I can finished all the lesson clearly.

B. Time Management and Organizing Activities
Teaching in EHS is a very short time, as a teacher we only be given 1 hour per session. This happen because they want to make sure that every child get the same portion to other courses. So here’s how we manage time in class:
Common Class
-
Grace period for 2 minutes (this is what we call bathroom break for students who wishes to go to the bathroom before the class starts)
-
Opening Prayer (3 minutes)
-
Checking of Attendance (2 minutes)
-
1 minute settle down (if the class still noisy)
-
Start with the Motivational Activity (15 minutes)
-
Lecture proper (30 minutes)
-
Post-assessment Activity (5 minutes)
-
Closing Prayer (2 minutes)
Post-Mastery Test Class
-
Opening prayer, Checking Attendance, Giving back of Mastery Tests (13 minutes)
-
Lesson discussion (30 minutes)
-
Post-assessment (12 minutes)
-
Closing routines (5 minutes)
C. Classroom Management
Classroom management is very crucial in teaching. At its core, it aims to ensure classes run smoothly, disruptive behaviour from students is kept to a minimum, and teaching materials and activities promote learning. Maybe we can start with position. In each class there are at least 40 students, so it is important to keep them tidy. In grade 8 Honesty, they will divided into 6 row with each 5 students and the rest making one row at the back of class.

As I have mentioned, the students are very active and competitive. So whenever I asked/called them, I have to watch them one-by-one and then choose fairly. Sometimes when they get too noisy, I have to settling them down and counted from 1 to 3 and then pick one of them. Or I could also say “Attention please, Honestier” so they can be quite. I’ve noticed that not all students want to raise their hands, so I will call a name and asked them to answer my questions.

Every class have 2 doors, the front and back. The front door usually used by teacher when they bring teaching tools (ex: projector). The usage is more formal than the other one. The back door is usually used when student wants to go to comfort room (CR) or somewhere. But before that, they have to ask permission to the teacher.

D. Problem-Solving While Teaching and Staying in the Designated School

Every session always provide problem-solving. This can be form as pre or post assessment, and must be reflected in the learning plan. When making pre-assessment, we have to identify the topic that we would like to check on them and the type of test. This can be to check on their previous knowledge or their idea of the lesson in this unit. Otherwise, post-assessment is some kind of exercises and activities. When making problems, we have to pay attention on how hard or time needed to solve it.
Both assessment can be conducted online and onsite. When it comes to onsite, students are given chance to answer it. For example the physics problem solving, they have GRESA (Given, Required, Equation, Solution, and Answer) so the teacher might choose 5 student to write down the answers.
So far, I am having no difficulties when staying in EHS. Every time I got questions or considerations, I just asked to my buddies, supervising teacher, or SEA-Teacher coordinators. I love them cause they all very helpful!

E. Measurement and Evaluation
After done with the grand demo, me and my buddy went to library. I checked the post-assessment so my buddy can inputted to the Excel sheets. After that we had a conference meeting. It is a must for every PSTs to have conference meeting with supervising teacher/assessor after teaching to get feedback. It always start with “how was your teaching?” and then discussed about how it goes. Overall, his feedback was very detailed and positive.
